Growing a business? fundamental tips for lasting success

When i set up a business to supply tailoring materials to tailors who were too busy to purchase these items for themselves, the market was already saturated with people doing the same thing

But I knew that I had what it took to still succeed and even grow my business.

The first thing I recommend is VISION. Being able to foresee the future of your business is a key to growth. I could see my business moving from a physical one to one where with only a click, tailors could place orders and receive supplies under an hour from any location.

That’s the power of vision, most people weren’t doing this, it was still largely untapped but with vision, i created a money spinning idea in a market most people thought was saturated.

You need to know where you want your business to be in future and you should hold unto that vision for it, pursue it with all your might. Once you can envision it, making it a reality is no longer too difficult.

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others” Jonathon Swift

PERSEVERANCE is another factor needed to ensure business success. You need to hold unto your vision regardless of any contrary opinion. It’s up to you to ensure your business withstands all things that will affect it along the way

Personally, I’m yet to see a successful business owner who hasn’t needed to persevere in the journey of growing his or her business

“When we see ourselves in a situation which must be endured and gone through, it is best to make up our minds to it, meet it with firmness, and accommodate everything to it in the best way practicable. This lessens the evil; while fretting and fuming only serves to increase your own torments” Thomas Jefferson

PLAN, you need direction. Where is your vision going to take your business, along which path will it lead it and how long will it take? Planning helps you put things into perspective and you can develop the strategies you need to fulfill your vision for your company through it

I find myself going back to check it often because it helps keep me on track

“In a free market and in the absence of planning, developers will flatten every hillside, fill every canyon, obliterate every endangered species and pave over every wetland they think they can make a buck on” Peter Navarro

LEARN,  study what other successful people have done and do the same thing. Before someone arrives at a certain level of success, there are things that they did that got them there, it’s worth being open to learn from their business models as this reduces your obstacles and gives you a clearer picture of how to get your business to that level

I’ve never stopped learning and I never will, as long as I have the ability to keep doing it, I will. No one knows everything and learning from those who have walked the path before, has made my own journey to success, shorter

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow” Anthony J.D’ Angelo

PRESERVE YOUR HEALTH, your health is important, without it your business will collapse or someone else will need to run it on your behalf. So it’s vital to maintain a good health while your business grows to meet the level of your vision

I find when I’m stressed, my business suffers. I can’t focus on the things that will benefit my business when I’m feeling down, so it’s important for me to take care of myself and my health

“There’s nothing more important than our good health, that’s our principal capital asset “Arlen Specter”

LEVERAGE, there are sometimes you will need to do this to ensure that your vision and dreams become a reality. Leveraging is required to take you to where you want your business to be. Use the talent and abilities of your workforce effectively, you don’t have 100% of all it takes to make your vision become a reality, but others can help you

For me, my staff have been instrumental to the growth of my business largely because I allow them use their abilities fully by creating the right atmosphere for them in the workplace; a relaxing working environment with regular discussions

“Your workforce is your most valuable asset. The knowledge and skills they have represent the fuel that drives the engine of business, and you van leverage that knowledge” Harvey Mackay
